Work

by pollygarter @ Monday, Mar. 31, 2008 - 23:51:07

Just done my penultimate night shift. It went smoothly, except I had to stay on an hour as someone rang in sick. And another colleage was half an hour late, but really proud of fact she was half an hour early - first time I've known somene to not adjust clocks and be an hour out on the Monday! She'd been working really hard so had Sunday just chilling and start of BST completely passed her by!

I'm so excited that I'm nearly finished although the job was very useful and I am very positive about it - Just had enough...

I've been paid for three pieces of freelance work I've done, so a bit of a cushion for a while. I have a good chance of picking up some hours with another organisation where project I worked on has run out of funding. Will be fewer hours, but that feels quite good. I know I'm not going to starve and if I can't get enough freelance stuff there are other options. it's quite nice to feel life is an adventure, even if I can't remember last Easter!

Easter and Old Age...

by pollygarter @ Monday, Mar. 31, 2008 - 23:42:06

I was trying to work out how my Mum and older sister could go to Mass and come to me for lunch on Easter Sunday with only me as means of transportation. Luckily this was solved by my younger sister coming to Wales for Easter after all. All went swimmingly and a nice lunch had by all.

I noticed Sara's comment on sponge pud and checked it out. Coincidentally it was close to blog on Easter 2007 and I discovered that last year I celebrated Easter a week late because my younger sister was unable to come to Wales for the holiday weekend. I had absolutely no recollection of this and read my own blog with amazement. It's a bit scary to be forgetting things that happened a year ago! My lover has no recollection either, although we're both convinced we'd have discussed in person and in email at the time.

My Birthday (2)

by pollygarter @ Friday, Mar. 14, 2008 - 00:39:38

Had a lovely if unusual birthday. I arranged to have lunch with old friend, then invited new friend, so was a bit odd, but pleasant enough. Then went to see my Aunt as I'd had news her sister (my other aunt) had recently died. Got phone number of my cousin from her, so was able to ring with condolences. My aunt is now last of the siblings as my father and his brother and other sister now gone.

My friends were amused that I was cooking for my lover and me on my birthday, but I like us sharing a meal and like eating at home. I thought about a take away, but we both like roast lamb and it's now become our celebratory meal together.

Was very strange spending night together and lovely not to be clock watching. We both had a broken night, but quite happy just to have been together.

As usual he was brilliant on present front and I now have full collection of Daphne DuMaurier to work through as well as puzzles, computer stuff, chocolates and music.

I'm really enjoying being in my fifties.

Changes...

by pollygarter @ Friday, Mar. 14, 2008 - 00:29:18

My working life is a bit complicated and precarious, but I decided to give up my only regular and guaranteed job, despite the uncertainty of other income streams. I feel quite liberated and excited by the decision. The work was nightshifts, and although only five a month I was getting to dread them, despite work being fairly easy.

Having been made redundant after years of unhappiness in a previous career and lifetime and having had a job literally cease to exist overnight I am quite relaxed about my decision. I have been far happier since out of full time employment and know I have options should my chosen work not materialise or be enough.
