Frank O'Connor/Ex-Catholicism

by pollygarter @ Saturday, Apr. 01, 2006 - 23:17:42

Just read these marvellous short stories by F O'C - 'My Oedipus Complex and Other Stories'. I'd not heard of him, but a colleague passed on a spare copy of the book, telling me I'd particularly like 'First confession' - I did! Interestingly enough my lover (Irish-Welsh ex-Catholic) also remembered same story. That said, I found other stories funnier and several terribly touching and sad, but it's that link of Cathlicism and whole Confession history that I suppose is so powerful.

I have had it on good authority that I cannot be an ex-Catholic without ex-communication, so am merely lapsed. I also know someone who sees Catholicism as a heritage issue and describes himself as 'Half-Catholic'!

Lapsed just sounds so half-hearted, somehow though - as if someone, somewhere has strings attached and I may get reeled back in.88| I did complete my Nine First Fridays, so it might yet happen, but I'm not holding my breath...:-/

Paths not taken: Mistress thoughts

by pollygarter @ Saturday, Apr. 01, 2006 - 21:13:35

Yesterday my lover, his wife, his adult daughter and her husband were in town. The daughter is a musician and was playing in a free lunchtime concert near me. The temptation to spy was almost irresistible, but obviously not completely as I didn't do it.
As he loves to talk about his daughter, he'd have liked me to see the concert as well. We had talked about possibility so that if I'd turned up it wouldn't have been a shock. Somehow it seemed like a further level of dishonesty and I didn't attend. The nosey, gossipy part of me wishes I had, but I'm glad I didn't although I would like to see his daughter perform.

Advertisements!

by pollygarter @ Saturday, Apr. 01, 2006 - 11:24:48

Well there I am, a suave, sophisticated woman of the world and mistress to one, who just ocassionally shows an interest in bins -
And what do I find?:??:My lovely blog full of ads for bins!88|:))

On the other hand something specially designed to clean out my new wheelie bin sounds interesting...Of course I'm far too clever to be taken in by the ads. It's a coincidence that I somehow ended up with both Mr. Muscle and Cilit Bang under the sink. One of my diplacement activities is buying cleaning products rather than actually doing housework. I also have lovely new rubber broom and impregnated mop thing to add to collection.

No, I'm definitely far too clever for the ads or lure of the Kleenezee and Betterwear catalogues...:**:

...OK...Is this an April Fools' Day thing or are they really going to do it?:-/ Sounded plausible, but timing made me wonder...:??:
It will of course be hard to ever beat the spaghetti tree:>>
ps I like splitting ifinitives:))
